Richard and Heart find peace in Prague

They sealed their sojourn in Prague with a kiss in Old Town Square and came home with statuettes of the Sto. Niño of Prague as pasalubong for folks back home.

“My mom kept reminding me to bring one for her,” said Richard Gutierrez of Annabelle Rama who is so devoted to the Sto. Niño that she would go to Cebu early in the morning just to hear Mass at the Sto. Niño Shrine and fly back to Manila right after.

“How I wish we had time to see more of the city,” said Heart Evangelista. “I’ll never forget Prague (Czech Republic). It was my first ever trip to Europe. It’s such a peaceful place that I could hear my heart beating.”

Richard stayed for eight days in that city and Heart for four days (only because she had to fly to Beijing for Mano Po 6: My Mother, Regal Films’ 2009 Metro Filmfest entry in which she plays Sharon Cuneta’s pasaway daughter) to shoot some of the romantic scenes (included that tender outdoor kiss in Old Town Square) for Full House, the Filipinized version of the hit Koreanovela topbilled by Jung Ji Hoon (a.k.a. Rain who now stars in Ninja Assassin, his second Hollywood film) which premieres tonight at 9:20 on GMA replacing the timeslot of the just-concluded telenovela Rosalinda.

Directed by Mark A. Reyes, Full House is the second TV team-up of Richard and Heart, after Asero which was also partly filmed abroad (in Dubai). It also stars Isabel Oli, Patrick Garcia, Keempee de Leon, Epi Quizon, John Lapus, Rainier Castillo, Sheena Halili, Raquel Villavicencio, Chariz Solomon and Marky Lopez, plus Ronaldo Valdez and Pilita Corrales in special roles.

Richard plays Justin, a famous actor scheduled to shoot an international movie in Prague. Heart plays Jessie, a struggling writer who wins an all-expenses-paid trip to Prague. They find themselves seated beside each other on the plane. Guess what happens next.

They say that you will know a person better only when you travel with him. That’s when a person’s real character surfaces.

“Richard and I got to talk more about life,” admitted Heart who is loveless in contrast to Richard is, well, “love-full” (even if Richard refuses to reveal the identity of his loved one who is a gem of a girl). “It helps that his mom happens to be my manager.”

After breaking up with Jericho Rosales and moving from Kapamilya to Kapuso, Heart never looked back, refusing to listen to even the mildest “echo” from the past.

“My career hit rock bottom and I’m glad that I was able to recover after I put my priorities in order,” said Heart who goes out on “friendly” dates but has refrained from going into another commitment. “I’m happy with my life now.”

After Asero, Richard said that Heart has become more open with him.

“She’s more free-spirited now, more outgoing,” he added. “The shoot for Asero was our getting-to-know-each-other period. With Full House, we are more comfortable with each other, we can talk freely about anything.”

Asked what advice he could give Heart where affairs of the heart are concerned, Richard said, “Mas marami siyang pinagdaanan. She should be the one giving me advice.”

Year 2009 was full of changes for Richard.

“Maraming ups, marami ding downs,” said Richard. “What’s important is that I survived the trials. You know what I mean.”

Away from the maddening crowd and even when he and Heart were busy with the Full House shoot, Richard had time to take stock of things while in Prague.

“I should say that I was able to retrieve a lost part of myself when I was there.”

Regine Velasquez passes legacy to Sarah Geronimo

WHEN Regine Velasquez gave her favorite pearl necklace to Sarah Geronimo at the latter’s recent jampacked concert at the Ara-neta Coliseum, many said that it’s a sign that the Songbird is already passing her crown to the Pop Princess.

“Well, if that’s how people interpreted it, it’s just fine with me. I’m certain she’ll make it,” she states.

Interestingly, Regine gave Sarah her necklace impulse.

“It’s because I felt proud and happy for her. It’s public knowledge that she started in‘ Star for a Night’ which I hosted so she’s my original baby. And Sarah is one gracious and thoughtful gal. She always sends me text messages asking if I’m okay. She’s sweet. How can you not love her?

Originally, she intended to give Sarah flowers.

“But I wasn’t able to buy (flowers). So, I decided to just give her my necklace instead. Actually, I saw myself in her during my initial days in showbiz. That necklace, it’s important to me. Although it’s not that costly, I always wear it everywhere I go. I think I bought it in the States or Hong Kong. I told Sarah to take good care of it.”

According to the Songbird, in spite of the observation that she’s gradually handing over her throne to her successor, she’s still very much around.

“I still have lots of projects like my latest movie opposite Aga Muhlach whose tentative title is ‘Of All the Things.’ I’m also scheduled to have my own drama show over at GMA-7 titled ‘Diva’ slated for next year. Then there’s the reformatted‘ SOP’ and plans for a new album. My schedule is still pretty much the same,” Regine says.

Richard Gutierrez prepares for topless scenes

RICHARD Gutierrez is happy to be portraying a normal guy in his latest soap for GMA7, the remake of the hit Koreanovela “Full House.”

Asked if he is pressured when it comes to the ratings, the handsome matinee idol explains:

“It’s always the case whenever I have a new program. I’m blessed that all my prime time projects from ‘Mulawin’ to ‘Zorro’ became certified top raters. With ‘Full House,’ I feel confident that it would also become a hit since it has a strong recall among viewers. The cast is great and we even shot the key scenes in Prague."

After “Asero,” it’s his second project with leading lady Heart Evangelista.

“She’s a nice gal. We became closer when we shot in Prague. Here in “Full House,” we already reached that point where we share opinions on life and love,” Richard continues.

Interestingly, the popular actor shares that during the initial tapings, he was restless.

Many are curious if he’ll also go topless in one key scene popular to the viewers which Korean superstar Rain did in the original.

“All I can say is for the people to just wait. I’ll make sure that I’m physically prepared for that,” Richard ends.

La Diva Concert

If Il Divo comes, can La Diva be far behind?

Make way for Jonalyn Viray, Aicelle Santos and Maricris Garcia, champions of the GMA talent search Pinoy Pop Star (1, 2 and 3 respectively) who sang the National Anthem with such passion during the recent Pacquiao-Cotto bout in Las Vegas that, according to the trio’s mentor, the respected award-winning composer Danny Tan, “Tumayo ang balahibo ko.”

La Diva was the personal choice of Manny Pacquiao for the event.

“It was the first time that a trio sang Lupang Hinirang,” noted Danny. “First time na three voices ang kumanta ng Lupang Hinirang. The crowd went wild; maski ‘yung taga-kabila nagpalakpakan. Akala nila unison ang pagkanta n’ung tatlo; they didn’t expect three different voices singing the National Anthem. When La Diva reached the line ‘Ang mamatay nang dahil sa’yo,’ naghiyawan na sa tuwa ang mga tao.’ Kinilabutan talaga ako.”

You might also feel your hair “standing on end” when you watch La Diva’s first solo concert titled Only La Diva on Nov. 28 (Saturday) and Dec. 5 (also a Saturday) at the Music Museum.

It wasn’t easy for Danny to organize the three champions into a trio.

“They were regulars on S.O.P. where they would perform individually until Darling de Jesus (a GMA executive) thought of making them perform together,” said Danny (known to televiewers as one of the judges of Celebrity Duets). “Then we thought of calling them La Diva.”

The three have so far won in other competitions — Jonalyn a gold medalist at World Championships of the Performing Arts (WCOPA); Aicelle at a song festival in Kazakhstan and Best New Female Recording Artist at the Awit Awards; and, recently, Maricris Best New Female Artist at the Star Awards for Music of the Philippine Movie Press Club (PMPC).

They blend beautifully well.

“Jonalyn is a belter, Aicelle has a soulful voice na parang Negrang-Negra while Maricris is more into ballads na parang Barbra Streisand In the beginning, medyo nahirapan kami dahil nga iba-iba ang boses nila, but as we went along naging maganda ang blending nila; nag-gel sila.”

Each of the girls has a solo album and they have just come up with their first album together consisting of three originals and the rest revivals, to be released by Sony Music.

(Note: Tickets to Only La Diva are priced at P1,500 and P800. Call Ticketworld at 891-9999.)

Joel Cruz shares winning

A Joel Cruz party is always worth attending because of the festive mood. His victory party at his rest house in Canyon Woods, Laurel, Batangas for being the grand winner in the Celebrity Duets Season 3, was incomparable. The place was star-studded and the set-up was grandiose.

Upon arrival, we were welcomed by the Buganda drummers, and it was evident that the color of the day was green being the favorite color of Joel Cruz, which symbolizes the "going green" campaign of his Joel Cruz Signatures.

From the start, Joel had second thoughts joining Celebrity Duets. Although he can dance and play the piano, he is not a singer like the rest. When he joined Celebrity Duets, what he had in mind was doing it for charity. He has been helping a lot of charitable organizations since February 2009. Joel Cruz’s beneficiaries include Hospicio de San Jose (P75,000), Tahanang Walang Hagdanan (P75,000) while the the following received P50,000 each: Asilo de San Vicente de Paul, PGH pedia wards 9 & 11, Missionaries of Charity and Charities of Mother Theresa, Kids Foundation, Jesus Love Little Children Foundation, Wish Ko Lang-GMA7, Quiapo Church girl sampaguita vendors, Verrie Santua (a cancer patient), Pandacan United Methodist Church, Kapuso Foundation-GMA7, St. Paul Seminary Foundation, St. Ignatius Parish Church (Zamboanga), UST High School, UST Hospital Charity Ward, a sexually-abused seven- year-old-girl from Batangas, Master Showman, and the Atimonan Parish church.

Aside from the fun, we really felt the spirit of Christmas with all those classy Christmas tree, reindeer, Belen, bells, lights, flowers, fireworks and gift-giving. We can say Santa Claus is not a myth as it was portrayed by Joel himself, a true Santa in a flesh.

Dingdong Dantes won't run for public office

Dingdong Dantes updates

Does Krista really drive Pacman crazy?

Is it for reel or for real?

In the beginning, showbiz-watchers suspected that the ties that bind Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao and Krista Ranillo were connected to the promo (read: gimmick) of their movie Wapakman which is included in next month’s Metro Filmfest. You know how it goes in local showbiz: During the promo period, the lead stars are supposed to be in love with each other, the better to whet the public’s appetite for gossip. The “romance” is usually co-terminus with the release of the movie... unless further evidence proves otherwise.

Now, is everything we’ve been hearing about Krista and Manny for real? Could it be true that Krista, who graduated with honors from Ateneo (Interdisciplinary Studies with tracks in Communication and Psychology), is driving Pacman crazy and Pacman’s wife raging with jealousy? If so, what kind of pound-for-pound treatment is Krista giving Pacman?

Of course, it’s not the first time that Krista, who is in her mid-20s, is being linked to a married man. When she was sweet sixteen, Krista’s name cropped up as one of the reasons behind the break-up of Gina Alajar and Michael de Mesa. I asked Michael about it then and he answered only with an enigmatic smile. In last Sunday’s The Buzz, hosts Boy Abunda and Kris Aquino quoted what Gina wrote in her Facebook
, something like “If I were Jinkee, I won’t give up on Manny; Krista is not worth it.”

I heard that Gina cried “Foul!” and took The Buzz to task for not asking her permission to quote from her Facebook. In the first place, if Gina had a piece of advice for Jinkee, why did she not just call or text Jinkee and not do it via her Facebook which can be accessed by your “friends” (one of whom could tip off a movie writer or a TV host)?

The rumor involving Krista and Pacman persists because of their public visibility together, to wit:

• Several weeks ago when Pacman and company took a vacation in Hong Kong, Krista was also there with Pacman’s (female) hairstylist who is said to be the “bridge” between the two;

• When Pacman distributed relief goods among the Ondoy victims, Krista was also with him. Take note: It’s not at all connected with their movie’s promo;

• When Pacman was training in Baguio for his fight with Puerto Rico’s Miguel Cotto, Krista was also there, reportedly giving Pacman, ehem, “moral” support, and that she exchanged “loaded” words with a sexy actress once also linked to Pacman; and

• When Pacman fought Cotto last Saturday (Sunday, Manila Time) in Las Vegas, Krista was there, seated at the far end with her father, Mat Ranillo III (also seen in some of the Krista-Pacman “sightings,” maybe acting as chaperon because the family is said to be “conservative”), and other members of the family; while Jinkee, with her twin sister, and their friends were at the ringside.

As Funfare reported the other day, Pacman’s two women crossed paths at the Chanel Shop in Wynn Hotel in Las Vegas. The eyewitness said that “sparks nearly flew” when the two groups threw snide remarks at each other.

During Pacman’s post-fight concert at Mandalay Bay, he ignored a request to acknowledge and thank Jinkee onstage, making people conclude that, yes, there must be some trouble in the couple’s marriage, especially when Jinkee cried during the thanksgiving Mass for Pacman where the homily was about the importance of keeping the family intact at all costs and preventing anything that would break it.

Krista confirmed only to Funfare that she did see Manny in Hong Kong. That was the only time she ever talked about the “reel” romance that has become...so “real”?

But Krista, who was on the same flight with Pacman to Hong Kong, said that it was all coincidence just like when she bumped into Pacman at a mall in Hong Kong. Again “by coincidence,” they were on the same flight back to Manila, and she and her friends accepted Pacman’s invitation for them to ride in his car from the airport to where Solar Entertainment boss Wilson Tieng was celebrating his birthday. That was during the start of their “being seen together.” Since that admission, Krista has never answered calls and text messages. (Hi, Krista! The line is open anytime you want to tell the truth, er, to air your side.)

There are side bars to the story, to the effect that Krista’s dad is running (for congressman again?) in 2010 and he badly needs the support of Pacman who himself is again jumping into the political arena, undaunted by the TKO he got from Darlene Antonino-Custodio in the 2007 congressional race in South Cotabato.

The plot is getting thicker and thicker.

Pacman is arriving with Jinkee today from L.A. Can Krista be far behind?

After winning his seventh title in seven different weight divisions, can Pacman emerge with gloved right hand raised in triumph in what might be his eighth “title”?

Dejado or llamado?

You can place your bets now.
