KOREA’S number one series in 2006, “Jumong,” is replacing “A Rosy Life” on GMA-7.

Made in the tradition of the hit “Jewel in the Palace,” this period drama is based on the life of a real Korean hero, Jumong (Song Il Gook of “Emperor of the Sea” on QTV-11), whose story is as inspiring as that of Jewel’s Jang Geum. Jumong grows up as the son of Geum Wa (Jeun Kwang Reul) and Yu Hwa (Oh Yun Soo) without knowing who his real father is. He longs for the chance to one day meet his dad. He falls in love with So Seo-no (Han Hye Jin), who happens to be the same woman that his step-brother, Dae So (Kim Seung Soo), is after. Dae So will do everything to take So Seo-no away from Jumong, but will he succeed? And having lost his father’s love to Jumong, Dae So vows to make Jumong’s life miserable. Yet, all the trials and sadness that Jumong bears all his life will not get in the way of his destiny.

See how Jumong grows up to be the hero whose legacy to the Korean people is his great historical triumph against thousands of armies to win back the skies of his old kingdom, Joseon, and establish what would become the great Goguryeo Dynasty in Korean history. “Jumong” will surely be another memorable drama on local TV, with its theme song,”Hold On,” by Shamrock. “Jumong” starts on January 8.
