GMA widens lead in ratings

GMA Network further strengthened its lead in Mega Manila ratings over its rival network for the first two months of 2008 despite the ratings controversy.

According to data from AGB Nielsen, GMA Network posted a total day average rating of 18.4% in partial February (February 1-13), up from its 17.8% average in January. Rival channel ABS-CBN posted a 12.3% average rating in January and an 11.6% rating in partial February.

GMA widened its lead from 5.5 points in January to 6.8 points this month despite the extensive promotional efforts made by ABS-CBN for their three new primetime programs.

Furthermore, survey results for February 1 to 13 revealed that 29 out of the 31 weekday programs of GMA-7 rated higher than the regular weekday programs of ABS-CBN.

Primetime programs of the Kapuso Network fared very well for the first two weeks of this month. 24 Oras posted a 6.6-point gap over TV Patrol. Zaido, which ended on the first week of February, likewise posted a 6.6-point gap over two of the three new programs of ABS-CBN.

New GMA Telebabad program Joaquin Bordado, which replaced Zaido, widened the ratings lead over Kung Fu Kids and Lobo to 15 ratings points.

GMA’s other primetime programs registered even bigger leads over ABS-CBN shows. Kamandag lorded over Palos with an 18.6-point gap. The phenomenal Marimar garnered the highest ratings with an average of 44%, 30 points higher than Maging Sino Ka Man’s measly 14.3% average in partial February.

The GMA primetime “Koreanovela” hit Coffee Prince posted an average rating of 34.4%, 25.6 points higher than the 8.8% average rating of ABS-CBN’s Spring Waltz.

All GMA late-night programs were also ahead in ratings posting an average lead of 5.5 points over the late night shows of ABS-CBN. These shows include news program Saksi, Kung Ako Ikaw, ESP, Bubble Gang, I-Witness, Reporter’s Notebook, Born to be Wild, 100% Pinoy and Emergency.

Most of the weekend programs of GMA-7 also rated higher than those of ABS-CBN. [source of news]
