GMA Network surge in nationwide ratings continues

Based on AGB Nielsen’s NUTAM survey dated February 24 to March 1, GMA Network maintained equal ranking with ABS-CBN in terms of total day people ratings. Both networks are tied at 7.9 percent.

GMA also trailed its rival network by a slim 0.7 percent in terms of total day household ratings. ABS-CBN posted a total day household rating of 17 percent while GMA posted 16.3.

Fifteen out of the top 30 programs were from GMA. The phenomenal hit Marimar ranked first in the list, while Joaquin Bordado and Kamandag occupied the second and third posts, respectively.

GMA shows remained the principal choices of viewers in Urban Luzon. Eighteen out of the top 30 programs in the said area were from GMA. Marimar, Joaquin Bordado, Kamandag and Bitoy’s Funniest Videos occupied the first four slots in the roster of best programs.

It prominence continued to cover the reach of North/Central Luzon area. Twenty of the top 30 over-all programs were produced by the Kapuso channel. The top 11 programs were from GMA. Marimar, Joaquin Bordado, Kamandag, Bitoy’s Funniest Videos and Mel & Joey were the top five programs.

The momentum in nationwide ratings clearly shifted starting from December of 2007. GMA’s strong ratings performance translated into higher revenues for the company.

The Network’s consolidated gross revenues reached P12 billion in 2007, nine percent higher than its P11 billion revenues the previous year.

GMA’s net income grew by 19 percent to P2.33 billion in 2007.

Based on unaudited figures, the Network’s current ratio is at 2.4. Return on Assets is at 19.5 percent while Return on Equity is at 27.2 percent.

Current assets grew by 27 percent from P5.65 billion in 2006 to P7.17 billion in 2007. Total assets increased by 17 percent to P11.97 billion, while stockholder’s equity went up by 24 percent to P8.56 billion.

Current liabilities increased slightly by five percent to P2.97 billion while total liabilities increased by only three percent to P3.4 billion.

Production costs increased only by two percent to P3.8 billion, while consolidated general and administrative expenses in 2007 amounted to P3 billion or 15 percent higher than the previous year.

Earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) stood at P4.5 billion in 2007, 11 percent higher than the figures for the previous year.

The company also continues its facilities and signal improvement projects in the regions in its drive to gain supremacy in other parts of the country particularly in the south.

Apart from its regional expansion projects, GMA is also building two state-of-the-art studios within its compound in Quezon City. [source of news]
