Marvin Agustin admits closeness with Diana

ACTOR-restaurateur Marvin Agustin admits that he is happy with the way things are going as far as his personal life, acting career and business are concerned. Although loveless at the moment, the single father of twins (three-year-old Sebastian and Santiago) is not complaining.

“Hindi na ako naghahanap. Kusang darating na lamang `yun kung talaga para sa akin,” he philosophizes.

Erstwhile screen partner Jolina Magdangal was Marvin’s first showbiz girlfriend. But that happened when both of them were very young. He also had a short-lived relationship with actresses Pauleen Luna and Angel Locsin. He is currently being linked to his “Gaano Kadalas ang Minsan” co-star Diana Zubiri but both stars admit that they’re just friends.

“Maganda, mabait, sweet at sexy si Diana. Sino ba namang lalaki ang hindi mai-in love sa kanya?” says Marvin at the press launch of their upcoming TV drama series, the TV adaptation of the unforgettable classic film, “Gaano Kadalas ang Minsan” megged by Danny Zialcita and starred in by Vilma Santos, Hilda Koronel and Dindo Fernando.

“Magkaibigan kami ni Diana na nagsimula pa sa “Asian Treasures” at sinundan ng “Babangon Ako’t Dudurugin Kita”. Ngayon, magkasama kaming muli sa “Gaano Kadalas ang Minsan,” he relates.

“Close friend ko si Marvin. Madalas akong mag-swimming sa bahay niya at nasasabihan ko siya ng mga sikreto ko,” confessed Diana.

In one occasion, Diana left her swimsuit in Marvin’s house which the latter kept.

“Ayaw niya kasing kunin kaya itinago ko,” laughs Marvin.

In the new TV series, “Gaano Kadalas ang Minsan” which premiered last June 23, Marvin plays the role of Louie, a doctor while Diana tackles the role of Elsa who is secretly in love with Louie and best friend of Louie’s girlfriend, Lily, a nurse played by comebacking actress Camille Prats.

“I’m very thankful to GMA dahil hindi nila ako pinababayaan since I moved to them in in 2005,” shares Marvin.

His first TV series with the Kapuso network was “I Luv NY” where he was reunited with Jolina Magdangal. This was followed by “Asian Treasures,” “Mga Mata ni Anghelita” and “Marimar.” “Gaano Kadalas ang Minsan” is his 6th TV series under GMA.

Despite his busy schedule as an actor, Marvin does not neglect his role as a father to his twins who are turning 3 on August 15.

“They are with me on weekends. Pero anytime na may oras ako, pinupuntahan ko sila. Maganda ang arrangement namin ni Tetet (Dy). Walang restrictions pagdating sa mga anak namin. Nag-aaral na sila pareho sa nursery. Parehong mahilig manood ng TV at sine at mahilig magbasa ng libro. Para ko silang mga barkada. Marunong na rin silang mang-asar. Usually, kapag sinusundo ko sila, we just stay home at nanonood kami. Kahit gaano ako ka-busy, I spend quality time with them,” says the proud dad.

Marvin is one actor who knows how to plan for his future. He knows that showbiz is not permanent and there will come a time when assignments will be scarce. With the help of his two business partners-buddies, Marvin put up a restaurant business. First with Oyster Boy with three branches now - Cubao (near Gateway), Greenhills and Metrowalk. Their Sumo Sam Japanese restaurant has already two branches - one in Rockwell and in Shangri-La Plaza. Café Ten Titas in Gateway is also doing very well and soon, two more restaurants will open - an Italian restaurant Marciano’s which will open in Greenbelt 3 sometime in August and another Japanese restaurant, Harajuku in Eastwood to open in October.

Unknown to many, Marvin was only 17 years old when he worked as waiter in a Mexican restaurant (Tia Maria’s) in Alabang which lasted for eight months. He could have stayed longer but showbiz beckoned. As early as then, he was already interested in the restaurant business. When he had the chance, he took the bold steps in putting up a restaurant with the help of his two business partners. And luckily, all the restaurants that they put up are doing very well.
