Funfare’s pick as Most Versatile Young Actor of the Year is none other than Richard Gutierrez. In 2008 and the preceding year, Richard defied typecasting both on TV and in movies, playing varied roles that include a birdman (Mulawin), a snakeman (Kamandag), a superhero (Captain Barbell), a mysterious martial-arts fighter, a suicidal son, a young man haunted by a ghost (Sigaw, remade by Hollywood as The Echo), a cyborg, an international thief (Asero), a spoiled brat and a janitor.
He’s not identified with just one leading lady, having been paired with Angel Locsin, Marian Rivera, Heart Evangelista and KC Concepcion (first in Star Cinema’s For The First Time and soon in Regal Films/GMA Films’ When I Met You, now directed by Joel Lamangan after Joey Javier Reyes backed out due to scheduling problems).
An environmentalist, Richard hosts the GMA show Full Force Nature which encourages the viewers to help keep the planet clean and green.
Richard is excited about Zorro, his next GMA telefantasya starrer due in January, as the legendary masked hero played by some Hollywood actors (the last having been Antonio Banderas).
As in his past projects, Richard is training hard for Zorro, learning how to ride a horse and fight with a sword.
