Rosanna Roces nailed to cross

In her desire to be considered as a serious actress, Rosanna Roces, a former “bold” star, had herself nailed to the cross for her upcoming Holy Week film, “Pasang Krus.”

Roces said she did not think twice when the independent film was first offered to her.

“May igagaling pa ako kasi bigay ng Lord ito (acting talent). Nakakahiya naman kung hindi ko ibabalik, di ba? ‘Yong talent natin, bigay sa’yo ng Diyos yan. Ibalik mo sa kanya through whatever na makakapag-move sa tao para maala-ala mo siya,” Roces said.

In the movie, Roces portrays the role of a mother who will do anything for her children. There is one scene in “Pasang Krus” that saw Roces being nailed to the cross.

Roces said it was she who told the director to make the scene real.

“’Yong mga hindi kaya ng kahit sino, ano ako, living on the edge ako. Parang lahat ng extreme, gustong-gusto ko. Naging ulap ang nakikita ko parang hindi ko ma-explain,” Roces said of her experience.

After the scene, she felt as if she was able to "unloaded" excess baggage.

“Parang may nawala sa aking bagay na mabigat… kinabukasan nga, siguro dahil nakapag-unload ka, lahat, pati yong di mo ma-forgive natanggal,” she said, adding that because of it, she is now closer to God.

Through “Pasang Krus,” Roces also hopes that this time, she will be recognized as a real actress.

“Ang ano ko nga ayaw nila akong tanggapin bilang tunay na aktres. Nandun pa rin ‘yong bold image. Parang ayaw nila akong ma-elevate although pinipilit ko ng galingan,” she said, referring to her previous film “Aurora.”

The Movie Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) had twice given “Aurora” an “X” rating, saying that the rape scene in the film was “unfit for public viewing” and “too explicit.”

The “X” rating drew the ire of the actress as she pointed out that her other sexy movies shown on cinemas were more daring compared to what she did in "Aurora."

In her previous interview, Roces said: “Ang feeling ko kasi porke't Rosanna Roces bibigyan mo ng ‘X.’ Ayaw ka nilang tanggapin bilang artista. Ang nakikita lang nila ‘yong sexy na ginawa mo.”

After “Pasang Krus,” Roces said: “Pagtakapos nito, hmmm (sealing her lips), gan’on na sila.”
