New GMA shows, new pairings

GMA exec Wilma Galvante called for a press briefing to announce their new shows for the rest of 2009 and in the coming new year. She answered all questions with amazing candor, but still careful enough to request the writers present to make some ticklish issues off the record. Starting November 15 is "Starstruck V" hosted by Raymond Gutierrez with new co-hosts Carla Abellana and Dennis Trillo. "I've seen the initial batch of hopefuls and they're very promising," says Wilma. "Magaganda talaga at talented so we're excited about it."

"Rosalinda" ends on November 27 to be replaced by "Full House" on November 30. Stars Richard Gutierrez and Heart Evangelista are going to Prague this weekend to tape important scenes there for 10 days. "We want to give viewers the chance to see new things, new places, and the Czech Republic is something very different," adds Wilma.

"Stairway to Heaven" ends December 11 on a triumphant note since they're now rating 34 to 35%, disproving earlier allegations that a Dingdong Dantes-Rhian Ramos teamup won't work. In fairness to Rhian, she's superb in that episode where she finally regained her memory that rated so high. Replacing it will be the first GMA Christmaserye tentatively titled "Sana Ngayong Pasko," starring Susan Roces as a mom suffering from dementia, with Christopher de Leon, Gina Alajar, TJ Trinidad, Maxene Magalona, JC Tiuseco, Yna Asistio and JC de Vera. This will run until the New Year to be replaced by a big-budgeted telefantasya, "The Last Prince," starring Aljur Abrenica and Kris Bernal with a powerhouse supporting cast. "This is the first of the big original concept telefantasyas we're launching next year kasi kilala kami for telefantasyas," adds Wilma. "We also have 'Odessa,' 'Animos' and 'Encantadia, The Second Saga'."

Also slated as a Christmas special on December 13 is "After the Rain," with Regine Velasquez paying tribute to the heroes of the recent typhoons and inspiring viewers to share and spread the love this holiday season. Since Bong Revilla will run for re-election, he'll be replaced by his youngest son Ram Revilla as host of "Kap's Amazing Stories" that will be a kid's edition with Ram having two female co-hosts.

GMA is building up the new teen love team of Joshua Dionisio and Barbie Forteza, who gained lots of fans when they played the young Dingdong and Rhian in "Stairway to Heaven." They will first star in a special episode about young love in "Dear Friend" for all the Sundays of December. On January 18, they'll topbill "First Luv," a teen romance co-starring another teen pair, Jhake Vargas and Joanna Marie Tan, that will replace "Ikaw Sana" on the 6 p.m. slot.

Two new Sinenovelas to replace "Kaya Kong Abutin ang Langit" and "Tinik Sa Dibdib" are TV remakes of "Ina, Kasusuklaman Ba Kita?" that originally starred Lorna Tolentino and the late Rita Gomez.(this will now star the mother-daughter team of Jean and Jennica Garcia, to start on January 25) and "Gumapang Ka sa Lusak," a political drama-thriller, originally megged by the late Lino Brocka starring Christopher de Leon and Dina Bonnevie, to start February 8.

More stories from Ms. Wilma tomorrow.
