GMA maintains Mega Manila TV ratings lead in April

BACKED by a strong line-up of afternoon and primetime programs, GMA Network kept its lead in viewer-rich Mega Manila in April, according to survey results from the more widely recognized TV ratings data supplier AGB Nielsen Philippines.

GMA Network posted an average audience share of 34.6 percent, 0.9 percentage points higher than competition’s 33.7 percent (data from April 25-30 are based on overnight ratings).

During the month, GMA had 6 entries in the list of overall top 10 programs. The fantasy series “The Last Prince,” starred by young heartthrobs Aljur Abrenica and Kris Bernal, and the first “kantaserye” in the country, “Diva,” figured strongly in the top five.

Other programs that made it to the top 10 include the primetime Koreanovela “Queen Seon Deok,” banner newscast “24 Oras,” the action-packed “Panday Kids” led by child actor Buboy Villar, and weekend primetime public affairs show “Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho.”

The longest running noontime show, “Eat Bulaga,” shared the top spot with competition's “Showtime” among daytime programs, while the series, “First Time,” featuring young stars Joshua Dionisio, Barbie Forteza, and Jhake Vargas was also among the top five daytime shows.

GMA’s afternoon drama soaps including “Gumapang Ka Sa Lusak,” led by Dennis Trillo and Jennylyn Mercado, as well as “Ina, Kasusuklaman Ba Kita?” starred by real-life mother and daughter Jean and Jennica Garcia, likewise made it to the top ten list of daytime programs.

Meanwhile, GMA Network’s News and Public Affairs programs remained the viewers’ choice in Mega Manila, with “24 Oras” topping the list, followed by “Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho” and “Imbestigador” in the 3rd and 4th spots. GMA News and Public Affairs is set to deliver the biggest, most comprehensive 2010 election coverage dubbed, Eleksyon 2010.

The Network also increased its lead in another key area in April - Urban North/Central Luzon -- where GMA posted an average audience share of 40.6 percent, higher by 8.4 percentage points than ABS-CBN’s 32.2 percent (data up to April 24 only). The gap was higher than GMA’s lead of 7 percentage points over ABS-CBN in Urban North/Central Luzon in March.

GMA Network Chairman, President and CEO Felipe L. Gozon expects that the Network’s lead in TV ratings will increase with the launch of new programs in the coming months.

“We are launching new programs that our viewers will surely enjoy watching. With these new shows, we are hopeful that the gap in TV ratings will once again widen,” Gozon said.

Among the programs set to launch on GMA Network in the coming months include the Barbie Forteza-starrer “Pilyang Kerubin,” “Survivor Philippines: Celebrity Edition” with host Richard Gutierrez, Heart Evangelista’s “Langit sa Piling Mo,” “Endless Love” with Marian Rivera and Dingdong Dantes, and a whole lot more.

Based on AGB Nielsen’s 2010 TV household population projections, Mega Manila TV households now comprise 55% of the National Urban Philippines TV population and are generated from a bigger panel of 800 TV households. Urban North/Central Luzon, on the other hand, accounts for 21% of the National Urban Philippines TV population.

AGB Nielsen supplies TV ratings data to 21 companies in the Philippines. GMA Network and two other media companies (ABS-CBN not included), plus twelve (12) major advertising agencies and four (4) regional clients subscribe to AGB Nielsen.

Sige kayo na number 1 pero kindly explain your decrease in TV ads? To think na ang ABS ay mas mahal ng 20% ang tv rates bat kaya dumarami ads nila ngayon? Halos fully booked shows nila ng tv ads.
