Marian Rivera's kind heart

MARIAN Rivera is thankful to her fans who sponsored a special screening of her filmfest entry, "Super Inday and the Golden Bibe", for indigent kids. Marian has a soft spot for poor kids and has already helped three children afflicted with the big C who were so happy to see her in person but later succumbed to the fatal ailment.

"Mahal ko ang mga bata, lalo na 'yung deprived because of poverty or disease kasi mga inosente silang walang kalaban-laban," she says. "Kaya nagpapasalamat ako sa fans kong nag-sponsor ng screening ng 'Super Inday' dahil I saw for myself na napasaya talaga 'yung mga batang nanood."

This was shown in "Showbiz Central" and it's obvious that Marian is one top actress who has a charitable heart.

GMA Films Indie Movie?

Lumabas na very flat.

* * *

“As a manager representing an actress such as Jennylyn is already a feather on my cap. I’m excited with the many opportunities coming her way because of Rosario.

“Jen may not have won nor received a nomination but for all those who watched and believed that Jen was really good in the film, thank you.

“Jen really made us proud. The appreciation and compliments of the people who have seen the film is an award of its own. Congrats to Ms. Ai-Ai for bagging the best actress award.”

* * *

Sa nakaraang MMFF awards night pa rin, big winner ang Ang Tanging Ina Mo, Last na ’To dahil ang nasabing pelikula ang nagwagi ng halos lahat ng major and minor awards.

Nakuha nila ang best picture, best director (Wenn Deramas), best actress (Ai-Ai de las Alas), best supporting actress (Eugene Domingo), best screenplay (Mel del Rosario), best story (Mel del Rosario), best musical score (Jesse Lasaten), best child performer (Xyriel Manabat) at Gender Sensitive award.

Anyway, narito ang iba pang mga nanalo: 2nd best picture: Rosario (Cinemabuhay & Studio5); 3rd best picture: RPG: Metanoia (Ambient Media & Star Cinema); best actor: Dolphy (Father Jejemon); Gatpuno Antonio Villegas Cultural Award: Rosario; best supporting actor: Dolphy (Rosario); best cinematography: Carlo Mendoza (Rosario); best editing: John Wong (Rosario); best production design: Joel Luna & Miki Hahn (Rosario); best visual effects: Rico Guttierez & Co. (Si Agimat at si Enteng Kabisote); best make-up: Nestor Dayao & Co. (Si Agimat at si Enteng Kabisote);

Best theme song: Kaya Ko (RPG: Metanioa); best sound recording (tie): Ditoy Aguila (Super Inday and the Golden Bibe) & Ambient Media (RPG: Metanoia); best indie film: Presa (Adolf Alix); Gender Sensitive Award Tanging Ina...; (special citation for animation): RPG: Metanoia; best float: Rosario; best dressed: Dennis and Jennylyn (gown by Pepsi Herrera); Faces of the Night: Sen. Bong Revilla and Sam Pinto.

Ogie and Regine are now officially husband and wife

Sa isang bahagi ng wedding vow ni Ogie ay sinabi niyang, "I'll be your number one Reginean, your Brad Pitt, and Justin Bieber..."

I've never felt so happy all my life."

Ayon sa report ni Karen Pagsolingan ng PEP, "The venue was filled with violet, pink, and white flowers. Visitors are dressed in pastel colors. The altar is overlooking the hills."

Vicki Belo at Hayden Kho Jr.

Anyway, going back to Machete.

MARIAN Rivera has so much to be thankful for this year so she gave a thanksgiving party to the press at Annabel’s yesterday.

“Kahit may mga intriga, thankful akong kumita 'yung ‘You to Me are Everything’ namin ni Dingdong (Dantes), tapos may filmfest entry ako ngayon, ‘Super Inday and the Golden Bibe,’ ” she says. “On TV, hits ang ‘Darna,’ ‘Show Me Da Manny’ and ‘Endless Love’. Tuluy-tuloy rin ang endorsements, so I can’t complain. God is good.”

She says “Super Inday” a special blessing. “Kasi this gives me a chance na makapagpasaya ng tao this holiday season. Very entertaining ito, comedy-fantasy with action scenes where I am seen fighting monsters and other forces of evil. It’s for the whole family. Also, it gave me the chance to remake a movie ng idol ko, si Maricel Soriano.”

It’s common knowledge Vivian Velez was not pleased when she remade Vivian’s “Babaeng Hinugot sa Aking Tadyang”. What if Maricel also wouldn’t enjoy her portrayal of “Super Inday”? “Naku, I think she’ll like it, thanks to Mother Lily and Direk Mike Tuviera who guided me to make sure okay ang version ko ng ‘Super Inday’. Sana nga, manood si Ate Marya ng premiere night so she’d see our updated version ng kanyang 1988 movie. We’re both babaeng bakla rito. We’ve worked together in ‘Bahay Kubo’ sa 2007 filmfest and she’s really very nice and warm.”

Did she resent Vivian’s comments? “No, opinion niya 'yun and we’re all entitled to our own opinion. So I respect her opinion. Wala 'yun. I even told my fans not to react na kasi free country ito.”

So which one does she prefer: Darna or Super Inday? “Magkaiba sila kasi si Darna, serious. Super Inday is funny with fight scenes na naka-high heels ako sa batuhan kaya muntik nang masubsob ang mukha ko several times. Tiyak na tatawa ang viewers dito, pati sa characters played by Pokwang as Kokay and John Lapus as the Golden Bibe.”

Jennylyn: Spare me

ISN’T Jennylyn Mercado worried that her beau Dennis Trillo might stray now that he’s doing “Dwarfina” with his original crush, Heart Evangelista?
“Naku, wala akong ganyang insecurity as we trust each other,” she says at the grand presscon of her filmfest entry, “Rosario.” “And everyone knows na Heart is now on with Daniel (Matsunaga) kaya wag nyo na sila gawaan ng intriga. But even if we don’t see each other frequently, very smooth sailing ang relasyon namin. Wala kaming conflicts kaya masaya kami pareho. Basta we have free time, lumalabas kaming magkasama.”
She’s proud to play the title role in “Rosario.” “It’s very challenging as she’s a real life character, lola ni Mr. Manny Pangilinan na boss ng TV5 at naging Carnival Queen noong 1920s. She’s a woman ahead of her time na married to Yul Servo but had an affair with Dennis in the story. For this, she was ostracized by society. Maraming demanding dramatic scenes sa movie and I hope with the help of our director, Albert Martinez, I’m able to give justice to all of them. I want to thank GMA naman kasi they agreed na i-promote namin ni Dennis sa GMA shows ang ‘Rosario’, kahit Studio 5 ang producer nito.”
Produced at a cost of P50 million, also in the cast are Phillip Salvador, Isabel Oli, Sid Lucero, Ricky Davao, Ara Mina, Eula Valdes, Empress Schuck, Liza Lorena, Chanda Romero, Tonton Gutierrez, Rita Avila, Desiree del Valle, Lloyd Samartino, Precious Quigaman, Ronaldo Valdez, Liezl Martinez, Bing Loyzaga, Dino Guevarra, Dino Imperial, and Dolphy in a special participation as the grandson of Rosario who acts as the narrator. What can Jen say about predictions that she’ll win the filmfest best actress award? “Sana nga, but I don’t want to expect kasi nakaka-pressure. When I did the film, walang ganun sa isip ko. I’m just happy to have done a film na ganito kaganda so I fully cooperated with Direk Albert and did whatever he asked me to do.”

Pacquiao seeks P250,000 cash for disabled athletes

PEOPLE’S champion Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao yesterday sought to grant lifetime retirement benefits and one-time cash incentives up to P250,000 to disabled athletes.
Pacquiao and Pwersa ng Bayaning Atleta (PBA) Rep. Mark Sambar lamented that benefits for concerned athletes remain to be an elusive dream.

Ten years after a law was enacted to grant cash and non-monetary benefits to national athletes of up to P100,000 for a gold medal, they discovered that differently-abled athletes and their coaches and trainers had been left out.

Sambar and Pacquiao filed House Bill (HB) No. 939 to amend Republic Act (RA) No. 9064 providing incentives to national athletes to include the para-athletes or athletes with disabilities, coaches and trainers, including their retirement and health benefits.

Sambar and Pacquiao also wanted the cash incentives to be increased to up to P250,000.

Sambar said HB 939 was filed at the time when 35-member athlete team left the country on December 8 to compete in the ASEAN Paralympic-Games in Guanzou, China which is slated on December 12 to 20.

“Our team does not even have a decent parade uniform. Mukha kaming kawawa sa international competition. We feel we do not get enough support from government,” lamented Philspada trainer and coach Isidro Vidosola.

Under HB No. 939, from original P100,000, Sambar and Pacquiao increased the cash incentive for individual event gold medalists in the Southeast Asian Games to P200,000 and the silver medalists from P50,000 to P100,000.

I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For.

No rivalry between Empress and Jennica

They’re from rival networks. Jennica Garcia is a Kapuso while Empress Schuck is a Kapamilya, so they’re glad to be given the chance to work together as twin endorsers of Natasha Beauty Sketches. “This is rare so I’m really thankful to Natasha,” says Empress. “If not for them, Jennica and I won’t get the opportunity na magkasama.”

Both of them hold much promise. Jennica is proud that she gets to do both comedy and drama in her GMA 7 shows. In Jejemom, which just ended, she did comedy with Eugene Domingo while in Bantatay, she’s into drama as the blind girl, Joanna, who owns the talented dog that is possessed by the spirit of a murder victim, Raymart Santiago. “I’m also glad Bantatay is rating high on at 6 p.m., Monday to Friday,” she says.

It’s common knowledge her current boyfriend is Alwyn Uytingco, who’s also a Kapamilya. How come it’s said that Alwyn is a bad influence on her? “It’s unfair for him to be branded as such kasi napakabait niya. Wala namang ginagawang masama sa’kin yung tao. You can ask my mom. They get along fine, hindi sila nag-aaway, contrary to rumors. I think fans ng love team namin ni Carl Guevarra ang nag-re-react kasi we’re paired in Bantatay and Jejemom, but I’m linked to Alwyn who’s from ABS-CBN.”

But supposing Alwyn is not in her life, would she fall for Carl? “I don’t know. Carl and I are good friends. Maalaga siya sa set during taping. When it’s hot, he even fans me. But hanggang friends lang kami talaga.”

Doesn’t Alwyn get jealous with her closeness to Carl? “No, he knows hanggang sa work lang kami ni Carl, dahil pag walang work, I’m with him and not with anyone else, no? He watches Bantatay and even he says Carl and I have a good chemistry on screen. The show is gaining more viewers ngayong wala kaming matirhan ng mga anak ni Raymart as Bantay kasi umalis na kami sa pet shop where I work. Then, Raymart gets to see his missing wife, Gelli de Belen, who they think is dead, so there’s hope for their kids.”

Empress is NBSB or no boyfriend since birth. At 17, she says she’s not in a hurry to have one. “It’s only now that my career is taking off so I’d rather focus on this first,” says the former child star who has won awards as Best Child Actress. “I had a great time working with Lorna Tolentino as one of her daughters in Sa’Yo Lamang, which also gave me the chance to be directed by Laurice Guillen. It was a very pleasant experience for me as I really learned a lot. On TV, I just finished my first title role series, Rosalka, and I was told I’d be in the new show that will star Robin Padilla and Bea Alonzo to start taping next month.”

She’ll obviously play a supporting role in that show. Doesn’t she mind when she already played a lead role in Rosalka? “Not at all. Mag-iinarte pa ba ako when this is my chance to get to work with Robin? As for Bea, she played my half sister in Sa’Yo Lamang and she’s such a good drama actress kaya I’m looking forward to working with her again. Isa pa, this is a primetime show whereas Rosalka is an afternoon show, so I really welcome working on a primetime drama.”

If ever she’d be asked to do more mature roles that require kissing scenes, would she do it? “I’m not in a hurry, but I’m sure darating din ako diyan. I’d be 18 next year and I don’t know if ABS has plans of giving me more mature or daring roles. Kailangan ko munang paghandaan yan.”

If ever, who would she like to do her first kissing scene with? “John Lloyd Cruz, definitely. He’s our hottest young actor today, di ba? And everyone wants to get the chance to work with him.”

So why did Natasha choose Jennica and Empress as their endorsers? “Because they’re both beautiful, talented and fast-rising. They’re also our most promising young actresses so they’re perfect for our makeup line for teens that offers a complete array of beauty products from pressed powder and lipstick to eye shadow, blush and cologne at reasonable prices,” say Natasha execs whose products are now available in 20 countries worldwide.

Do they really use Natasha products? “Yes, I use the Natasha sunscreen to protect my skin and their lip gloss that has a yummy taste,” says Empress.

“Their products are also hypoallergenic kaya I don’t worry na baka magkaroon ng bad reaction sa skin ko,” says Jennica.

Kaya put away with those false eyelashes, those rosy cheeks.

Beyonce Knowles likes Pacman

Asked kung bakit sina Kobe, Serena and Pacquiao, paliwanag ni Beyonce: “I definitely identify with Kobe Bryant as far as his work ethics and I can always see that he’s focused. He works harder than I could ever imagine. It is like he’s in the zone. He’s just undeniable as far as his talent and his gift.

“No. 2, definitely, Serena. She just transforms because when you speak to her and she’s not working, she’s a most lovely, gentle, sweet, beautiful woman, and she is ferocious when she gets out there. I love it! You cannot talk to her. She’s in the zone!”

“Even Pacquiao, I love him because I really relate to people who were born to do something and gets lost in the moment. When he gets in the ring, he’s a beast! I love it! And he shows you can have humility and be a calm person and also be driven when it’s time and be a fighter.”

Richard Gutierrez excites Lovi Poe

For me, he's a true gentleman," sabi ni Lovi.

It's a dream come true.

“Solenn is so nice, kaya excited din akong makasama siya.

She hopes to deliver by the end of the first quarter of 2011.

Regine Velasquez: Goodbye to Party Pilipinas

“What causes my anxiety?

Jennylyn sued for bouncing checks

Nabalita kahapon na sinampahan si Jennylyn Mercado ng mag-asawang nagngangalang Leon and Cathy Tan for bouncing checks kaya naman nais itong linawin ng manager ni Jen na si Becky Aguila, who, incidentally ay kasama rin sa sinampahan.

“Jen and I were already looking forward to the estafa and bouncing checks case filed by Leon and Cathy Tan.

Na-reopen pa nga ’yung isang case namin against Mel, ’yung falsification of documents and no bail recommended din for Mel,” dagdag pa niya.

“I am personally looking forward to the hearing. The case of Leon and Cathy Tan will somehow clear everything for me and Jen. Okay lang with me to attend the hearings since may elevator na sa QC Hall of Justice,” pagbibiro pa ng manager.

'Survivor' finalist offered P250T to win?

ALL is set for the live telecast finale of “Survivor Philippines Celebrity Showdown” tonight at 8 p.m. In “Showbiz Central” last Sunday, jurors Jon Hall, Michelle Madrigal, Elma Muros and Sexbomb Aira faced surviving finalists Akihiro Sato, Ervic Vijandre, Solenn Heussaff and Aubrey Miles who got the chance to ask them a question each.

Ervic to Michelle: “Ano dapat kong ginawa to win?”

Akihiro to Elma: “Am I really a nice guy?” Elma: “Yes. Mabait si Aki. Masipag. Host Raymond Gutierrez to Aki: “Is it true you offered P250,000 each to the jurors just to make you win?” Aki: “Not true. I think spreading that rumor is part of the game to discredit me. No need to attack me like this.”

The jury members confirmed Aki made no such offer to them.

Solenn to Aira: “Did you prejudge me na maarte ako because I’m a model, a socialite?”
Aira: “When I first saw you, sabi ko, sayang, masisira ang beauty niya sa island. Pero bumilib ako, nagtatrabaho siya. Di ko nga ine-expect na tatagal siya. Akala ko siya'ng unang matatanggal.”
Aubrey to Jon: “Do you believe I played it as evil as other people say?”
Jon: “Magaling ka. You’re not evil but you took it personal. Even when I was out of the game, you’re still saying bad things about me.”
Aubrey: “Sorry, kasalanan ko talaga 'yun.”
Host Raymond: “Is it true you manipulated everyone?” Aubrey: “No. I didn’t manipulate them. Wala akong pinilit, lahat kusang nag-agree sa’kin.”

Kapuso stars grace GMA-P&G event

What was originally planned as a simple turn-over ceremony of the seven-classroom building in Malaya Elementary School in Pililla, Rizal built through the partnership of GMA Kapuso Foundation and Procter and Gamble Philippines (P&G) turned into a huge star-studded event, as the biggest GMA Network stars and personalities gathered to throw in their support for the event held recently at the Makati Shangri-La Hotel.

The Kapuso stars joined top GMA Network (GMA) and GMA Kapuso Foundation (GMAKF) officers, P&G officials, project beneficiaries and other guests in the affair which marked the solid partnership between GMA, GMAKF and P&G for various CSR projects.

Since 2008, P&G has been a certified partner of the Foundation in the project dubbed, Unang Hakbang sa Kinabukasan, which formed part of P&G’s 3pid Handog Edukasyon campaign. The project has provided a total of 74,343 Grade 1 students from select public schools with free school supplies.

This year, P&G joined GMAKF in addressing the long-term needs of school beneficiaries through the rehabilitation of the seven-classroom building in Barangay Malaya, Pililla, Rizal which was heavily damaged by Ondoy and fire.

“We see social responsibility as a natural expression of our purpose to touch and improve lives. It is also an investment in the future,” said P&G Global CEO Robert McDonald.

“We are happy to see the kids smiling and appreciating the support of both P&G and GMA Kapuso Foundation,” said P&G Philippines president and GM Siddik Tetik.

In his message, GMA chairman and CEO Felipe Gozon said, “GMA and P&G continue to serve as instruments of social change.” He added, “The meaning of what we do and who we are, after all, is derived from how much of ourselves we have given in the service of others.”

Incidentally, P&G and GMAKF mark a twin-celebration this year. P&G is celebrating its 75th year of operating as a consumer goods company, while the GMAKF completes a two-decade circle of commitment to public service as it is celebrating its 20th anniversary this month.

GMA officers present during the affair were lawyer Felipe Gozon, SVP for Corporate Services Group and CFO Felipe Yalong, GMA marketing president Lizelle Maralag, GMA Films president Annette Abrogar, GMA SVP for Radio Miguel “Mike” Enriquez, GMA Marketing SVP Joel Jimenez, GMA Kapuso Foundation EVP and COO Carmela “Mel” Tiangco.

P&G was represented by McDonald, together with Asia Group president Deb Henretta, Tetik, P&G Philippines marketing director Raj Pudipeddi, P&G Asia External Relations VP Erik Jonnaert, and P&G Philippines External Relations associate director Jamie Endaya.

Among the stars who graced the occasion included Richard Gutierrez, Michael V., Claudine Barretto, Heart Evangelista, Aljur Abrenica, Carla Abellana, Maxene and Elmo Magalona, Joshua Dionisio, Barbie Forteza, Raymond Gutierrez, Daniel Matsunaga, Enzo Pineda, Rocco Nacino, Steven Silva, Sarah Lahbati, Diva Montelaba, Solenn Heussaff, Sam Pinto, La Diva’s Maricris Garcia, Jonalyn Viray, Aicelle Santos, Mark Bautista, Bubbles Paraiso, Isabel Oli, Jackie Rice, Bianca King, Frencheska Farr, Julie Ann San Jose, Gwen Zamora, Ellen Adarna, Ervic Vijandre and Bela Padilla.
